Gingham On My Mind!

The Gingham pattern is versatile, timeless and classic. It’s not just for little girl bedrooms. At the moment you can literally find Gingham everywhere. While some may say it’s a trend I beg to disagree and Gingham will forever be found in my home … somewhere!

Finding Cool Pieces!

I love a good consignment, thrift or antique store shop. Finding one of kind art, furniture or home accessories gives me a designer high! I found this awesome lucite magazine rack at a local salvage shop here in Sarasota. I walked passed it twice and then grabbed it! It’s one of those pieces that just makes me happy. There are no rules to design just make your space a place you love and feel proud of.

Yes, I Love My Front Doors!

How can you not love these doors? They draw you in and are so darn cool! Our home was built in 1978 and I’d like to think they are original to the home. I tell Tom all the time if we ever move the doors come with us or we have them custom made.

Four Palms Renovation!

We raised the roof (literally) and added on! To be honest the process wasn’t so bad. The worst part was having no roof for a few weeks, just a tarp during the rainy season in Florida. What we gained … a beautiful outdoor space with lighting, fans and a custom cypress ceiling. The addition includes an office, and more closet space. While in the process we decided to redo the entire roof and not tie in. We kept with the mid century vibe with custom long/narrow windows and a stucco exterior finish.

Cheers to our 1st big renovation!

Micro-Cement Kitchen Backsplash

I’ve had sleepless nights over our backsplash. What tile, what goes with the countertop I don’t love, but not replacing? Then it hit me I wanted a concrete look. So we went with micro-cement.

We used www.epodex.com and the best part was we applied the cement directly to the current tile backsplash!

It took us 4 days to complete which may seem long but life got in the way and we certainly wanted it to dry properly between coats (2 coats for us).

It’s warm, has texture, and is not overwhelming for a space.

Getting Cozy at Four Palms

Though the weather is still hot hot hot here in Sarasota, the need for some Fall decor is a must no matter the climate! My favorite may be the warm twinkling littles at night in both The Lounge and Living Room. The girls love the bats!

Keep it Simple!

Long story short we had to tear up the flooring in 1/2 the house due to a horrible install so we did a little revamp of the girl’s room. New porcelain tile, fresh paint, and dismantled the bunks! I repurposed the top bunks and wallpapered the foot and headboards. I think the end result is adorable! Fresh and clean!

Casey Key Color Palette Inspiration

A form of therapy for me is early mornings on Casey Key shark tooth hunting. The surroundings may have a lot to do with it; from the aqua color of the gulf to the perfect little shells, and pelicans diving for a fresh catch, and of course the dolphins I find great solitude and peace in these moments. This paint palette comes from my most recent outing on the key. I plopped myself down on the sand and just looked around at all the natural tones surrounding me and thought how glorious is nature! I hope these colors inspire you!

All paint selections are Benjamin Moore.
